Here are some things I found that helped me on the HCG diet:

*Drink lots of water!

*Buy flavored stevia-this will help add some variety in your diet. Just don’t over do it as too much can cause stomach upset!

*Mix things up! If you eat too much of the same thing you will most likely stall.

*If you are a woman, try and wait until after you have your period to start the diet so you don’t have to worry about retaining water giving you an inaccurate reading on the scale.

*Don’t try this diet if you have a history of cancer or other health issues-talk with your doctor first!

*Take it easy and don’t over exert yourself. Epson salt baths are great for detoxing and relaxation.

*Take before and after pictures and measure yourself so you can see how much progress you are making even on the days you don’t lose on the scale.

*Office max has good digital scales. Make sure you weigh your food so you don’t overeat!

You are probably wondering what foods you are allowed on the HCG Diet and if you will like them. I actually really enjoyed them, but to be honest,it doesn’t matter too much if you do or not. After about a week you won’t be controlled by your food cravings and you will be happy with what is allowed. On the first two days of the diet you can eat whatever you want, and the higher in fat the better.

Then you have Phase 1 which consists of (there is also a vegetarian and vegan option but I didn’t try those so I won’t post about it):
**It’s important in phase one to not skip the protein. You can skip anything else but that if you aren’t hungry!
Breakfast:

Black Coffee or
Green Tea or
Yerba Mate Tea or
Wu Long Tea or
Chamomile Tea
You may have as much as you desire. You may sweeten the tea and coffee with Stevia, but no other sweeteners should be used. Make sure that the Stevia doesn’t contain any additional ingredients i.e erythritol, dextrose, etc.

Lunch:

1. 100 grams (weighed raw) of grilled (no oil or fat) one of the meat choices below:

beef – This is not an ideal choice of protein. If you do have beef, limit it to a lean cut like Round Roast or London Broil and only have beef 2-3 times per week.
veal
fresh white fish (should not be frozen) – Ayr, Cat Fish, Cod, Coley, Dover Sole, Flounder, Flying Fish, Haddock, Hake, Halibut, Hoki, John Dory, Kalabasu, Lemon Sole, Ling, Monk Fish, Orange Roughy, Parrot Fish, Plaice, Pollack, Pomfret, Red & Grey Mullet, Red Fish, Red Snapper, Rohu, Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Shark, Skate, Tilapia, Turbot, and Whiting. ** The best place to buy FRESH fish would be a local health food store if you live in a land-locked state.

shell fish (shrimp, crab, prawn, lobster, etc)
Very occasionally we allow egg – boiled, poached or raw – to people who develop an aversion to meat, but in this case they must add the white of three eggs to the one they eat whole.
**(Per Pounds and Inches, American beef has almost double the caloric value of South Italian beef, which is not marbled with fat. The marbling is impossible to remove. In America, therefore, low-grade veal should be used for one meal and fish (excluding all those species such as herring, mackerel, tuna, salmon, eel, etc., which have a high fat content, and all dried smoked or pickled fish), chicken breast, lobster, crawfish, prawns, shrimps, crabmeat or kidneys for the other meal.)

2. One large handful of one of the following vegetables:

spinach
chard
chicory
beet greens
lettuce of any kind
tomatoes
celery
fennel
white, yellow or red onions
red radishes
cucumbers
asparagus
cabbage
These can be eaten raw, steamed, grilled or boiled. Do not mix vegetables in the same meal.

3. One of the following fruits:

1 apple
1 orange
1/2 grapefruit
1 handful of strawberries
4. One grissini breadstick or one melba toast.

Dinner:

The same 4 choices as for lunch.

Drinks Allowed:

Plain spring water, still mineral water, tea, coffee, Zevia. You should drink at least 2 liters of these liquids per day. We actually recommend drinking 1/2 of your weight in ounces per day. For example, if you weigh 200lbs you’ll want to drink a min. of 100oz of water daily.
** Zevia is not on the original protocol. Use at your own risk.

Seasonings Allowed:

Salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram, etc. Spices should be in their natural form for best results. Watch for sugar, artificial sweeteners, mixed veggies, or foods not allowed on the diet (i.e. carrots) in your spices!

Misc…

You may eat the breadstick and fruit as a snack in between meals instead of with your meals if you choose.
No over the counter non-prescription drugs should be taken (with the exception of Aspirin). ** Consult your physician before discontinuing any medications, prescription or non-prescription.
No cosmetics other than lipstick, eyebrow pencil and facial powder should be used.
No creams, lotions or moisturizers that contain fat should be used. (Check the ingredient list. It is not safe to use if it contains “oil” or anything ending in “-ose”)
Those not uncommon patients who feel that even so little food is too much for them, can omit anything they wish (page 31 in Pounds and Inches)
Massages are not recommended while on the HCG diet (page 42 in Pounds and Inches)

After you are done with Phase one, you can do Phase 3 which is you are allowed anything except artificial sweetners and starches such as white carbs (pasta, bread, etc.)

Once you make it through Phase 3 ok you can start to eat normally again, but you will find your preferences have changed and your appetite will have decreased.

The HCG diet
is very simple. It might seem like you would need a lot of will power to stick to it, but once you get past the first few days, you don’t get that hungry. Not to mention, when you see the pounds coming off almost EVERY day…the pounds you could not lose after MONTHS of hard dieting and exercise…you will want to do just about anything to continue to see those results. It starts to feel like a JOY and not a burden.

The HCG diet consists of a very low calorie diet of 500 calories of specific foods. I wouldn’t have tried this if I hadn’t seen my friend’s great results. I have done low calorie diets by accident (I tried the raw food diet which consists of fruits and vegetables, and some nuts and seeds-and was not getting enough calories) with bad results-I lost the GOOD fat, slowed down my metabolism, etc. So I told myself, if I felt even the least bit bad on this diet, I would stop.

However, this diet is different than other low calorie diets because even though you are only TAKING IN 500 calories, with the help of the HCG drops you get online from HCG ezDrops you are burning all of that bad fat up-and burning up lots of calories! So, it takes about 3 or 4 days to really get used to this, and psychologically you might miss your favorite foods at first.

This is a great diet though if you do not like to have to exercise. It is in fact, discourage on the hcg ez drops diet. Only moderate exercise like walking or yoga is recommended, if you must work out.
But something happens to your brain around the 3rd or 4th day (maybe up to a week, everyone is different) where you stop craving foods! I remember going to a work conference with free food and feeling disgusted by how much everyone (EVERYONE at the meeting was overweight!) was eating and I did not feel like I was being denied anything. I did NOT miss eating regular foods. I have never had such will power before on a diet.

Before you start the low calorie phase, you get to have some fun! You do two “load days” which include eating as much HIGH fat foods as you can. This is really important so that you have enough fat stores. You don’t want to skimp on this! So, have fun with it! It’s better probably to eat healthy high fat foods like avocado and coconut, but I loaded up on cupcakes, and fast food :) I actually LOST weight during this phase. Very exciting!

After you get through this you get to have the low calories portion which lasts for a minimum of 23 days, and a maximum of 45 days. The low calorie diet consists of only 500 calories a day of certain meat, veggies, fruits and one carb (Melba toast usually) After awhile I didn’t even want to eat 500 calories BUT you never want to skip the meat (protein) It’s very important even if you aren’t hungry, to eat the protein or you can become deficient.

This diet is not good for the long term, but for a short period of time, I believe it is safe. If you need to do a second round to meet your weight loss goals, you have to wait and allow your body to recover before you can do another round.

I suppose you need to decide how much you need to lose weight? Is a short term low calorie diet more negative to you, or being obese for the rest of your life? Which do you think is going to have more long term damage? I believe,personally, that the body can recover and heal from 23-45 days of low calorie (considering most of us may eat more calories but less nutrients than what you eat on this diet!) dieting better than it can heal from being obese for years. After you finish the low calorie portion, you gradually start adding regular foods in again and you can begin to eat more variety.

I had very little side effects on this diet. I had mild headaches and some fatigue, but this was only in the beginning. I was not tempted to cheat ONCE, but I know people who did and they still maintained an average weight loss of 1-2 lbs a day (with women it tends to average to more like a little less than a lb. a day because of water retention)

All in all, HCG EzDrops was one of the easiest diets to maintain and it really changed my eating habits. I now eat smaller portions, and make better food choices-and I have been done with the diet for 5 weeks now! I have actually maintained my weight and not gained any of the weight back-probably the best part of the diet so far!
